Agenda for Growth, Stability & Long Term Success

To survive and prosper the ‘Business Transformation 2010 and Beyond Agreement’ set a challenge to radically transform every aspect of the Royal Mail Operation and this has been central to turning the fortunes of the company around. In Parcelforce Worldwide the approach we have jointly developed continues to support growth and an expanding network.

The purpose of this agreement is to set out our strategy for growth, identify the key components of the growth agenda and the actions required to deliver it.

Business Transformation 2010 & Beyond

This agreement marks a critical step in the relationship between Royal Mail and the CWU. The business faces the need to radically transform every aspect of its operations in order to survive and prosper in a market where our traditional business is being overtaken by modern methods of communication and where competition, pension costs and volume decline are massive challenges for the company.

Royal Mail and CWU have come together to agree a plan to do this which tackles the urgency of the current situation, identifies what has to be done to address it, and includes full recognition of the interests and concerns of employees.

This agreement covers employees in CWU represented grades in Royal Mail Letters Operations, Logistics and Network, Engineers, Fleet Maintenance Services and Royal Mail International.

Christmas & New Year Arrangements 2018/19

Further to LTB 661/18 further discussions took place with the business on a cross departmental basis on the 5th November 2018 in relation to Christmas & New Year Arrangements 2018/19, at which an agreement was concluded that was subsequently endorsed by the Postal Executive.

Branches and representatives will note that the document broadly mirrors previous agreements, although some changes have been incorporated this year to deal with issues such as arrangements for delivery of LAT Traffic and Inward Tracked sortation at MPU’s.  The format has also been amended to remove some of the duplication in previous agreements.

CWU And Royal Mail Pay and Modernisation Agreement – April 2007/2009

In order for Royal Mail to thrive as a business and to ensure that it remains able to compete effectively it is recognised that change is going to have to happen at a scale and at a pace never experienced before. Both Royal Mail and CWU are jointly committed to working together to deliver that change by agreement, continuing to protect jobs (in line with our commitments in MTSF) and provide high quality terms and conditions for all employees. Both parties recognise that a fresh start is needed and are committed to moving away from the adversarial relationships that persist in too many parts of the business.

This needs to be replaced by respect for different viewpoints and a determination to work together to find common sense solutions that are mutually beneficial. This agreement lays the basis for changing how we work to ensure a successful future for the business, its employees and how the business and CWU will work together.
